It's no surprise that most businesses have gravitated towards facebook with its increasing popularity and huge audience it makes sense to have a presense on facebook. Before you jump in though, make sure you have a plan, and avoid some of the most common mistakes businesses and sales professionals make.
Most common mistakes:
1. Setting up your business as a personal account. There is a difference between a personal page and a business page. Personal pages that are used for commercial purposes can be deleted by facebook. Also, business pages come with more tools, features and benefits like customization, apps, tabs, analytics etc. So set up a business page.
2. Not providing updated relevent content. The reason facebook has become so popular is because its users are posting content everyday. It makes for an interesting and interactive forum. If you launch a page, invite all your friends and never update it, how does that make you look?
3. Not linking back to their own website. I cant tell you how many businesses, especially REALTORS I see post a new listing that links to someone elses website. Link articles and updates back to your own website as much as possible!
4. Overselling. Facebook is supposed to be fun, interactive and sometimes educational. Educate and inform your audience on relative topics to your business, but dont be hitting them with a sales pitch all the time. And look for other ways to interact with your audience like tagging people in photos, doing promotions, photo contests etc...
